Levi James Drew, 11, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 in Dalhart, Texas. A Celebration of Levis Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, Dalhart, Texas, officiated by Robert Ledbetter.
Levi was born Thursday, April 24, 2009, in Riverside, CA. His parents are Kenneth and Yolanda (Weststeyn) Drew and he was the youngest of six children. His three brothers and two sisters would soon learn that the last to be born would always give them a run-for-their-money at being first in line for just about everything. Levi was just five months old when the family packed up and moved to Dalhart, TX where Ken would continue his work in the dairy industry. The family, or "Drew Crew" as they were known, settled in, and really made Dalhart their home. They pitched in and were a part of everything: school, church, and community. They were very active members of Hillside Christian Church where Yolanda would eventually become the Director of Childrens Ministries. Ken, a cattle breeder, worked widely across the area, and soon they were a well-known, respected, and loved family.
Levi had a contagious smile that everyone noticed. He spent his early years in town and in the mix of things. As the other kids grew up and started activities outside the home, Levi wasnt bored because he found a new interest in life: animals. The Drews always had pets, but Levi was the undisputed pet collector. He would be the one rolling in the grass with dogs, cats, or whatever critter he could find to play with. Soon the family moved out east of Dalhart on some acreage where Levi could add all sorts of new adventures to his life and add to the pet collection.
Levi was close to all his family but was lucky enough to count his closest brother in age, Zac, as both roommate and best friend. He attended school in Hartley and was very loved by everyone across all the grades. He was a smart little brother, and while he might not be the best at sports, he was most often the winner of any strategy game. He was the man to beat in online games, too. He loved that moment where his opponent realized they had lost. He would just smile and say, "Wanna play again?"
Levi wasnt just smart; he had a quiet wisdom about him. He could see situations in ways others didnt. Levis wisdom and the Lords calling soon led him to open his heart to Jesus and he became a believer and was baptized by his dad in December of 2017. Daily he was learning to follow the Lord in practical ways, devotions, prayer, being shaped by Gods hands and his parents leading. Levi was the youngest and the shortest of the family, but he wasnt short in making an impact in this life. He was first in line for the one thing that counts the most, seeing our Lord and Savior face-to-face. Go Levi!
Levi is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Paul Drew and Pete Weststeyn, Sr.
He is survived by his mother Yolanda Drew and father Ken Drew and grandmothers Louise Drew and Frieda Weststeyn. He is also survived by his brothers Elijah, Jacob, and Zac; his sisters Hannah and Lily and by a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who loved and adored him!
