Lavon Faye Stewart went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.Services were held on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist church in Dalhart. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX.She was born in Stratford, Texas on December 7, 1927 to Delbert and Voncille (Cluck) Knight.She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Edna Dooley, Juanita Van Hooser, and Charlene Holbrook.She is survived by husband, John D. Stewart of Dalhart, Texas, daughter, Karen Cook of Dalhart, daughter Katy and husband Tedie West of Borger, son, John Whiteside of Hobbs, New Mexico, and son, Mark Whiteside of Dalhart. She is survived by nine grandchildren; Keri Cook Marler, J.B. Cook III, Tedie West III, Jeni West, Anna West, Ruschelle Whiteside Robinson, Nikki Whiteside Truelove, Coby Whiteside, and Kayla Measner. Seventeen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.Lavon Stewart was a loving mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for the wonderful Christmas gatherings at her house and the family reunions that she and John hosted in the mountains each summer.Lavon was a restaurant owner in Dalhart from 1966 until 1997. She began with the Cattleman's Cafe in 1966 and then was the owner of the Ly'n Bragg for 18 years. She and husband John then ran the Holiday Grill for several years before opening the Blue West Cafe. She retired from the restaurant business in 1997. Lavon fed three generations of farmers, cattlemen, and working families in Dalhart.
