Larry Childers, 69, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 in Amarillo, TXServices were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Officiating was Barry Walker, pastor, First Christian Church, Dalhart, TX. Larry Eugene Childers was born March 19, 1941 in Dumas, TX to A F and Geraldine (Simmons) Childers.Larry attended schools in Dumas and Dalhart and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1960. On June 16th, 1962 he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Mathews during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge he returned to the Dalhart area and on June 16, 1971 he married Frances Ballinger in Sunray, TX. Mr. Childers was a maintenance foreman at the Swift/Montfort processing plant in Cactus, TX. Larry is survived by his wife Frances of Dalhart, TX , his mother Geraldine of Amarillo, TX. daughters Lisa and her husband Chris Teaff of Russellville, AR, Fonda and her husband Marte Mitchell of Sunray, TX and Kim and her husband Scott Sharp of Sunray, TX, sons Kirk Elliott and his wife Sonya of Lubbock, TX, Justin Childers and his wife Tiff of Amarillo, TX and Jason Childers and his fianc Nichol Monahan of Dalhart, TX, brothers Gerald Childers of Amarillo, TX , Dale Childers of Dalhart, TX and Brent Childers of Amarillo, TX, sisters Faye Cartrite of Sunray, TX and Jo Palmer of Salt Lake City, UT, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Larry is preceded in death by his grandparents, father, 1 niece and 1 great niece.
