Kelly Maxwell Goodwin was born in Lawton Oklahoma on June 18, 1942 to Roy Goodwin, a railroad telegraph operator, and Bonnie Goodwin, an accomplished artist, art instructor and homemaker, Kelly shared his childhood with his five sisters. His early life took him to Fort Worth, Texas and Amarillo, Texas where he graduated from Palo Duro High Schools Class of 1960. After graduating, Kelly attended Amarillo College and began a career with the Rock Island Railroad. At the same time, he began the true work and love of his life, raising his children Todd, Lori and Greg. In 1979 Kelly married Janette, his wife of 43 years, and embraced a fourth child, his daughter Lonetta. A change to the Cotton Belt Railroad brought his family to Dalhart where he lived his life to the fullest. Kelly was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Dalhart, where he made many lasting relationships. He thought of his church congregation as his family, and he put great energy into his faith and the development of christian families in the Dalhart area. He served on many committees with the church and especially loved teaching his Sunday School classes. When he was not involved with the church, he loved the outdoors; often visiting the mountains of Colorado to hike, fish and enjoy the beauty of nature with his wife and children. A Bonnie Goodwin original painting of his beloved Chalk Creek Lake hangs over the mantle of his home to this day. In his retirement years, he loved to travel and experience the world. He visited many locations with his family and discovered the culture of other countries. He loved to take to the road with his fifth wheel; often ending up at Breeze Lake where he developed friends, he considered to be family. He spent considerable time at the El Jabali Ranch in Encinal, Texas where he worked as a wildlife manager and guide. While there, he had the joy of celebrating life with his sisters Sue and Gwen and their spouses. Shortly before his passing, Kelly celebrated his 80th birthday surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
