Keith Herbert Green, 76, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Amarillo, TXServices were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at Lakeview United Methodist Church with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. In the late afternoon of Wednesday May 7, 2008, Keith Herbert Green, a native son of Dalhart, was killed in a head-on collision along Highway 1061 near Amarillo. At his side was his wife of 29 years, Peggy, who also perished.Keith Green was born in Dalhart on January 6, 1932 to Herbert and Helen Green. He was a bright, hard-working student, graduating from Stratford High School as Salutatorian in 1950. He went on to Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State) and earned a BS in Animal Husbandry in 1954. His many involvements included being a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity and the Wesley Foundation. After college Keith served in the United States Air Force (1954-1957) as a pilot and flew with the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He married the former Elizabeth Ann Betty Cantrell by whom he had four sons and a daughter. But while based in California, Keith answered the call of his family and returned to the Texas Panhandle to oversee the land between Dalhart and Stratford that had been in the Green family for generations. He retired from the Air Force at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.A quiet man of few words, Keith nevertheless carried an abiding Christian faith inside and found comfort as a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church. His second wife, Peggy Hamilton Artz, whom he married on Valentines Day in 1979, was his devoted companion and shared his love for Jesus Christ. He was involved in multiple community and church activities, serving years as a Director of the XIT Rodeo & Reunion and also a member of the Dalhart Rotary Club.Keith is survived by five children, Barry Green (Austin, TX), Kevin Green (Tyler, TX), Malcolm Green (Overland Park, KS), Erin Tanner (Cedar Park, TX), Kyle Green (Dallas, TX), his sister Amelia Sims (Arlington, TX), and 14 grandchildren.
