Kathryn Cover, 78 of Amarillo, formerly of Dalhart, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1 o clock in the afternoon on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at First Baptist Church with Kurtis Abla officiating. Interment will follow in memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Cover will lie in state from 10 o clock in the morning until 6 o clock in the evening on Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Kathryn went to her eternal home in heaven to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2021. She was born on May 11, 1943 in Abilene, KS to George and Thelma (Nelson) Minter. She was the youngest of 4 children. She attended Abilene, KS schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1961. She married the love of her life, John Cover, on February 3, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, KS. She worked as a bank teller in Abilene for several years and then as a housewife and bookkeeper for the family farm. At her church, Kathryn loved serving by volunteering to teach Sunday School and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed teaching Arts and Crafts at the Christian school in Abilene. Later on she used that special gift to do many craft projects with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them in this way. She loved cooking, baking, and was especially fond of baking cinnamon rolls for people around Christmas time, one of her favorite times of year. She loved getting together with her Red Hatters group in Dalhart and more recently she cherished the times of meeting her friends for coffee or a meal and just visiting. Kathryn and John were blessed with 3 children, John Jr., Andrew and Susan, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Kathryn, John and the children moved to Dalhart, TX in 1984 where they increased their farming and cattle operation to the Hartley, TX area and partnered with their children. Due to illness, John was forced to quit farming in 2015 and Kathryn officially retired at that time. Their children and 2 grandsons are continuing the farming operation today. Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, John Cover, parents, George and Thelma Minter, brother, Howard Minter, sister-in-law, Becky Minter and brother-in-law, Allen Cover. Kathryn is survived by 2 sons, John Cover, Jr. of Richfield, ID and Andrew Cover and wife, Kay Cover of Dalhart, 1 daughter, Susan Clements and husband, Travis Clements of Dalhart, 11 grandchildren, Sarah Cover, Zane Cover, Annie Cover and Gracie Cover; Chrystal Cover, Jennifer Cover Lenz and husband, Jeremy Lenz, Kasey Cover and Cody Cover; Bailey Clements, Emily Clements Burgoin and husband Moses Burgoin, and Conner Clements. Also 6 great grandchildren, Kambry Lenz, Korbin Lenz, Payton Cover, Blaine Cover, Autumn Cover and Mila Burgoin. Kathryn is also survived by 2 brothers, Kenneth Minter and wife, Esther Minter and Duane Minter, sister-in-law Carol Minter and sister-in-law, Connie Cover, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
