Jesse Katharine "Kakie" Cadenhead, 77, of Dalhart, TX, died Friday, April 25, 2014.Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Dalhart at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014. Graveside services followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart with arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home. Kakie was born on April 17, 1937, to Raymon B. and Nellie Katherine Reynolds. She grew up as the third of five children on a farm in Rehm community where she learned to chop weeds, milk cows, separate milk, and gather eggs. In Dalhart High School, she was farm bureau queen and homecoming queen, and in basketball her team went to state championship. She also played tennis and cheered. After high school, she attended modeling school, charm school, and college. She worked at a bank, as a teacher, and as an underwriter for an insurance company. On what she considers one of the most significant days of her life, she was pulled over by a highway patrolman for speeding. But instead of giving her a ticket, he asked her out on a date. Shortly after, she married that highway patrolman, James Cadenhead. After living in Amarillo, TX, for a time, they moved back to Dalhart, TX, to farm. Kakie not only ran a tractor and a grain truck but also kept meals on the table for her husband and three sons. What will be remembered most about Kakie is her love for Jesus which radiated to everyone around her through her dynamic personality. Kakie says, "My life became richer the day Jesus knocked on my heart's door and I asked Him to come in, forgive my sins, and rule my life! Thank you, Jesus!" Among her favorite Bible verses were Jeremiah 29:11 and 2 Corinthians 5:1, "For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." As important as earthly fashion was to Kakie, even more important to her was the spiritual beauty she continues to possess. As a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Kakie taught youth, college and career, and adult Sunday school for many years. A lover of music, she sang in church choir, along with countless weddings and funerals. In fact, Kakie was just eight years old when she first sang in a wedding. She also served as a Pink Lady for many years and went on many overseas mission trips.Kakie will also be remembered for her constant hospitality, knack for making others feel welcome, and ability to put others before herself. In Dalhart and the many places Kakie has visited, she has touched countless lives. As a friend aptly stated, "Once you meet Kakie Cadenhead, you will never be the same." She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Monte Parr. She is survived by her husband James Cadenhead; her sons Bart Cadenhead and wife D'Ann of Amarillo, TX; Jimmy Cadenhead and wife Valerie of Hot Springs Village, AR; and Bret Cadenhead and wife Kathy of Lubbock, TX; her grandchildren Trae and Tiffany Cadenhead of Memphis, TN; Tyson and Heather Cadenhead of Murfreesboro, TN; Valerie Doshier of Denver, CO; Travis Doshier of Greenriver, WY; Paul and Katie Wallace of Ft.
