June Leftwich Head passed away February 7, 2016 in Dalhart, Texas, at the age of 89, after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. A Family Celebration of Life will be held in Lubbock, TX. June was born June 7, 1926 in Magazine, Arkansas to Julian R. and Zena Leftwich. In 1937, Junes family moved to Lubbock, TX. She graduated from Lubbock High, attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in English. While at Texas Tech, she met and married Don W. Slaughter in 1947, and they raised three children in Lubbock. They divorced in 1982. June married Ben T. Head in 1986 and moved to Austin where she lived until Bens death. She then moved to Dalhart to be in her daughters care as her illness progressed. June was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, the Junior Leagues of Lubbock and Austin and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin. June enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, painting and traveling. June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben T. Head and her two sisters, Margie McLeod and Louise Carnes. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Richard Slaughter and his wife Taysha, Sally Foster and her husband Greg and Scott Slaughter and his wife Laura; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. If you so desire, Junes family wishes any memorials to be made to the charity of your choice.
