Joyce Purdy, 95 of Dalhart, passed away on June 2, 2022. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 2:00pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Barry Walker officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
On June 2, 2022, Joyce Purdy went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on August 3, 1926, to Elmer Bud and Nellie Eversoll. Joyce and her older sister, Jean lived with her parents on their ranch in Middlewater, Texas, for many years.
In 1947, Joyce married her beloved, Wes. Their married life began at Middlewater, Texas where they ranched and farmed with Joyces parents. When their daughters, Sherri and Kay were old enough to attend school, they moved to Dalhart and made it their lifetime home. They worked and were very active in the Dalhart area for many years.
Joyces life was spent investing in family, home, friends, career and her beloved First Christian Church, where she was a lifelong member. She loved her church family and served in many capacities. Joyce loved her pastors and her sweet sisters in her Sunday School Class. However, in her later years, she wasnt thrilled about being the oldest member of the congregation! Those who knew Joyce knew she didnt discuss her age.
For Joyce, Church was not confined to the building, or just where she went on Sunday mornings. For years, every Sunday after church, she took newspapers, food and the Church Bulletin to an elderly member who was homebound. She exemplified being the hands and feet of Jesus. Joyce was a Christian woman and showed that in every aspect of her life.
Joyce spent many years as a teller at Citizens State Bank where she loved greeting people, and people loved seeing her. She was an avid walker and walked to and from work for many years when the weather allowed. She and her fellow tellers had wonderful times together and they loved wearing their Western clothes during the XIT celebrations. Joyce had many friends at the bank, including her special longtime friend, Bobbie Word, another cherished and beloved treasure of the community.
Many people in Dalhart loved going to Joyces drive-up window, and would wait in a long line rather than going to a different window with no line. Her sincere love for others, which can only come through fellowship with Jesus, was visible to family, friends and even customers at the drive-up window at the bank.
Joyce was our shining light, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven". She was the strong, quiet and steady voice of our family who showed Jesus to everyone, every day. We will love you forever and will see you again!
Joyce Eversoll Purdy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Bud Eversoll and Nellie Eversoll; her beloved husband, Wes Purdy; her sister Jean Eversoll Turpin; and grandson, Lance Tipton.
Joyce is survived by two daughters and their husbands; Sherri & Doug Beasley and Kay & Gary Tipton; her grandchildren, Doug Tipton and Kara Beasley; her great grandson, Layton Ramirez; her nieces, Diane Mason, Mitzy Brace, Leslie Reagan, Terri Blankenship and their families; her nephews, Wes Purdy and Randy Purdy and their families.
Joyce also leaves behind her loving caregivers who became her second family at Coon Memorial Home in Dalhart; Suzanne Ballejo, Billie Joslyn, Marta, Carla, Melissa and so many others who helped her, cared for her and loved her. All of you were Angels on earth and we could never thank you enough for all that you did for her and for loving her! God bless each of you.
