Jon D. Funk, 85 of Dalhart, went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 2, 2026. Born December 19, 1940 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Vera and Charles S. Funk. His parents moved to Dalhart in 1942, when Jon was only 2 years old.

Sometimes in life we are given subtle gifts that God knows what your family needs. For our family that gift was Jon Funk.

Jon brought with him a smile that sparkled, a sincere heart and a love for our mom that carried over thirty-seven years. They held each other up through heartache, trials and loss. They traveled to see friends and family and found joy in each other’s company proving that a lifelong friendship truly is the best joy in life. They shared in all the special moments with their grandchildren from birthdays to graduations and weddings.

Many in Dalhart know Jon Funk as the plumber who helped them for more than 50 years with Funk Plumbing, the business he joined as a young man with his father Charles Funk. Jon also gave over 10 years of service to the TDCJ in Dalhart to maintaining the boiler and managing a trustee team. He took great pride in learning and serving in that measure.

Over the years Jon stepped up in many other ways. He was an active EMT/paramedic for many years and loved serving the Dalhart community in that capacity and building the great friendships that came along with it. Whether it was driving his antique Model T in the XIT Parade or putting out flags in the cemetery, Jon was loyal to the community of Dalhart. He also reveled for many years with his BMW motorcycle crew and rides to the mountains.

Jon loved good music, a good beer and a good conversation, most of all Jon treasured his family. What more can you ask of your Papa/ Papaw, Uncle Jon or friend, whatever you knew him by. His blue-eyed smile twinkled when you needed it. He was the perfect balance to our family. God always knows what we need… Amazing!

Jon is survived today by his wife Lori Funk and her daughters Heather Brunson and husband Steve, Hilary Wilcox and husband Gary, and grandchildren Braxton Wilcox and wife Allison, Phillip Brunson and wife Hailey, Davis Brunson and wife Chelsea, and Avery Wilcox Boydston and husband Bayler; and great-grandchildren Evelyn, Beckham, Jacks, Dawson, Shep and one more on the way; nephews Doug Mathews, Mark Mathews, Scott Mathews and Bryan Mathews.

Jon was preceded in death by his beloved son Jeff Funk, his sister Loisjane Mathews, his brother Jerrylee Funk and his parents.
