On Thursday, January 12, 2023, John Charles Hornof 76 of Dalhart, passed away in Amarillo surrounded by his family. A Funeral Service, for family and church members, is scheduled for 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A Graveside Service, for friends, will follow at 3:00PM in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00PM on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Hornof will also lay in state from 9:00AM until noon on Tuesday morning at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. John was born to Frank and Marie Hornof in Boulder City, NV and grew up with his family in Los Angeles, California. John joined the Navy and proudly served between 1965-1971 as a Petty Officer 3rd class on the USS Braine (DD630). During this time John married the love of his life, Sharon Garrison on April, 6, 1968. After leaving the Navy, John worked for Southern California Edison and had three children. John moved his family to Dalhart in 1979. John would tell people he moved from sunny California and arrived in the middle of a blizzard in Dalhart, TX. John and Sharon had their 4th child after moving to Dalhart. John worked for Rita Blanca Electric until he retired. He also owned and operated the KOA campground in Dalhart. John was an active member of the Latter-Day Saints Church in Dalhart. John is proceeded in death by his parents, Frank E Hornof and Marie Hornof, one brother Frank Hornof Jr., and sister Nina Sue. John is survived by his wife, Sharon Hornof. His children, Tawnya and Ben Emanuele of Amarillo, TX; John (Johnny) Hornof and wife Rebecca of Killeen, TX; daughter Stephanie Hornof of Dalhart, TX; daughter Jeanie and Adam Henley of Dalhart, TX; brother James and Chauncia Hornof of Idaho; two "nephew-son" Jimmy and Jan Hornof.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
