John Hancock age 75, died on Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Dalhart, Texas.Funeral Services for John will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 2 oclock at Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Dalhart. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral HomeOfficiating will be Clifford Dane, Pastor Texline Baptist Church and Rusty Hancock, Pastor Lincoln Street Baptist Church. John Andrew Hancock was born May 12, 1932 in Dalhart, TX to John Andrew Hancock, Sr. and Edith Mae Walters Hancock. For several years John lived in the South Sedan area where his father farmed. John had all his schooling in Dalhart. In 1951 he and his brother Bill joined the Marine Corp. When he returned his first job was with Watkins Packing Plant and later he worked at the H.W.B. Wholesale House. For many years he managed a Texaco Service Station. In 1953 he married Vera Lorraine Firestone, a native Dalhartan. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was a member of Lincoln Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and greeter. John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Vera Hancock of Dalhart - his daughters: Sheryl Hall and husband Gary: Kitty Sanford and husband Tom of Dalhart and Nikki Frederick and husband Keith of Arlington, Virginia - two sons: John (Rusty) Hancock and wife Celle and Gary Hancock and wife Rhonda of Dalhart: fifteen Grandchildren and ten great Grandchildren and his siblings Mildred Hall and Nellie Morris of Dalhart, TXFamily requests Memorials to:Lincoln Street Baptist Church1019 LincolnDalhart, TX 79022
