JOHN OLIVER CROSSWHITE, 71, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Lakeview United Methodist Church in Dalhart, Texas. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TXJohn was born on August 15, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri to Carl and Eva (Turner) Crosswhite. As a young man, John attended Drury College and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Becoming a marine is a transformation that cannot be undone; Semper Fidelis Always Faithful was exactly how he lived the rest of his life. In 1968, John moved to Dalhart, Texas where he was a farmer and rancher. While in Dalhart he met and married the love of his life, Marion. In 1980 the family moved to Booker, Texas and he began a long career as a custom home builder. He built over 600 homes and countless commercial properties from the Texas panhandle to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he moved in 1990. He continued to build homes up until his death.Throughout his life, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church and a community leader. An avid sportsman, he played semi-pro baseball and enjoyed skiing, fishing and his favorite, golf. His greatest delight was watching his children and then grandchildren participate in any activity. No matter how big or small, he was there.He is survived by his wife Marion Haney Crosswhite, and dog Molly, of Las Vegas, NV., three sons, Kent and wife Caye of Louisburg, KS., Brad and wife Marsha of Paris, TX., Mark and wife Janet of Corpus Christ, TX., one daughter, Candace and husband Richard of Plano, TX. He was a loving grandfather to Paige and Ray Crosswhite, Andrew and Hanna Crosswhite, Collin and Britton Simpson, Jack, Olivia, and Georgia Leonard, and Alayna and Andrew Boyd.
