John William Cover, 77, died on Friday, March 9, 2018 in Amarillo, TX. Funeral Services were held at First Baptist Church in Dalhart, TX on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home with Kurtis Abla officiating. John went to his eternal home in heaven to be with the Lord on March 9, 2018. He was born on March 19, 1940 in Horton, KS to George & Anniejane (Hicks) Cover. He was the youngest of 2 sons. He attended, Horton, KS schools through the 8th grade, then moved with his family to Abilene, KS and attended Abilene High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. After High School, he attended K-State University in Manhattan, KS. He then had the opportunity to lease some land from a neighbor, so he was able to fulfill his love of farming. He began dating a neighbor girl, Kathryn Minter and they were united in Marriage on Feb. 3, 1963 at the First Methodist Church in Abilene, KS. They were blessed with 3 children, John Jr., Andrew and Susan, 11 grand-children & 4 great-grandchildren. He continued farming, then moved his family to Dalhart, TX in 1984 where he increased his farming and cattle operation to the Hartley, TX area and partnered with his children. Due to illness he was forced to quit farming in 2015. His children and 2 grandsons are continuing the farming operation today. John is preceded in death by his parents, George & Anniejane Cover. Johns legacy will be carried on through his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Cover of Amarillo, TX; 2 sons, John Cover Jr. of Twin Falls, ID and Andrew Cover and wife, Kay Cover of Dalhart, 1 daughter, Susan Clements and husband, Travis Clements of Dalhart; 11 grandchildren, Sarah Cover, Zane Cover, Annie Cover and Gracie Cover; Chrystal Cover, Jennifer Cover Lenz and husband, Jeremy Lenz, Kasey Cover and Cody Cover; Bailey Clements, Emily Clements and Conner Clements. Also 4 great grandchildren, Kambry Lenz, Korbin Lenz, Payton Cover and Blaine Cover. John is also survived by 1 brother, Allen Cover of Houston, TX, as well as 3 nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
