Gonzales John Carranza ,77, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 29, 2017 in Dalhart, TX. Rosary was at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Dalhart. Funeral Mass was at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the St. Anthony of Padua burial did to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX Arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home. Officiating was Monsignor Michael Colwell, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. John Carranza was born on January 10, 1940 in Dalhart, Texas to Regino & Sarah (Gonzales) Carranza. John served in the United States Army and later married Dorothy Aragon in Clayton, NM. They were married for 55 years and had 3 children. John worked for many great families in the Dalhart Community doing odd jobs as well as working for the City of Dalhart, Caviness Packing and later Retired from BNSF Rail Road. John was a member of St. Anthony of Padua for 55 years and helped deliver Meals on Wheels with his friend Jay Lucero. John enjoyed his family and friends. He loved to play billiards, often thought he was a pool shark. Coaching and watching softball was one of his favorite activities. In his younger years, he was a very stout man. He often replied, "he could move a train." He was known not to shy away from a fight. John loved listening to his sisters and brothers play guitars and accordion. Those were the good ole times! John liked the fragrance of cologne, he believed in aroma with a definite scent. John was raised by his brothers and sisters after his parents passed away when he was 9. John loved to watch John Wayne movies regularly. Most of all he thought the only vacation spot on earth was "Las Vegas, Nevada." John is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, his son Joseph Carranza of Dalhart, TX, his daughters- Pam Ferguson of Amarillo, TX and Bonnie Gaddy of Amarillo, TX, his grandchildren Anessa Peters and her husband, Anthony of Dalhart, TX and Jonathan Gaddy and his wife, Bailey of Canyon, TX and Braylee Gaddy of Dumas, TX., his great grandchildren- Cory, Cayden and Maliyha Peter of Dalhart and Riggs Gaddy of Canyon, TX. John is also survived by his brother Bernade Carranza & his wife, Ester of Dallas, TX, his sister, Grace Carranza of Dalhart and sister in law Janie Carranza of Dalhart, TX. As well as several nieces and nephews and many friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers- Faustino Carranza and Naviez Danny Encinias, his sisters- Sally Martinez and her husband, John Martinez and his sister Mikey Carranza. I know the Lord is always with me.
