John Beckman 78, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, in Amarillo, TX.
Prayer Vigil was held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, - St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Dalhart, TX.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, - St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Dalhart, TX. - Burial did follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TX.
John was born to Charles and Katherine (Emge) Beckman on Friday, September 2, 1938, in Canyon, TX. He grew up on the family farm in Umbarger. He joined the Navy and sailed the Pacific on the aircraft carrier "Bon Homme Richard" as his primary assignment.
He returned to the home farm and partnered with his dad for several years. He married Carolyn Milhoan and they had three children. In 1985, he moved to Corpus Christi but returned to the Panhandle, settling in Dalhart.
He married his beloved wife, Diane, who he met in Corpus Christi, in 1995. John was blessed with the talent to repair and restore antique furniture. He and Diane established "Johns Antiques and Woodshop" in Dalhart, where he happily practiced his expertise until his death.
John was an extraordinary person: He loved people and people loved him. He had many friends everywhere he went. His devotion to his spiritual life and to his God inspired us all.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, his son Sean and his grandson Anthony. He is survived by his wife Diane; his son Joe (Julie) of Livermore, CO, his daughters Lilia (George)Groneman of Vega, TX and Lydia Mendoza of Amarillo, TX, his brother Gerald (Judy) Beckman of Corpus Christi, TX, and his two sisters; Therese (Jesse) Jones of Canyon, TX and Phyllis (Melvin) Przilas of Dalhart, TX, Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two children of the heart: Michelle (Brian) Duncan and Aaron Gandy.
