Joe Henderson - God welcomed this precious soul into heaven on March 19, 2016. The family embraces the 82 wonderful years of life he lived. We invite all of you to celebrate the life of Daddy Joe and welcome him into the arms of Jesus. A celebration of life for Daddy Joe was held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at The First Baptist Church, Dalhart, TX. Sean Vickers, Pastor, and retired Baptist Minister, Bob McAlister, officiated. Joe Coleman Henderson (Daddy Joe) was born January 28, 1934, to Alyce Leavell Henderson and Oliver Coleman Henderson in Dalhart, TX. This was an at home birth on Oak Street. He was raised here and had all of his schooling in Dalhart. Joe was a nephew to Frank and Ben Leavell, Dalhart pioneers. He served in the Army National Guard. He worked as a mechanic and was employed by the railroad for 37 years. His love of cars and tinkering with gadgets gave him many hours of entertainment which he used to serve his church and others. He married JoAnn Workman on June 2, 1966. They were soon to celebrate 50 years of a loving marriage. To this union two daughters were born: Steffanie and Desha. He was known for his love, friendship, and his quiet, gentle and kind mannerisms. Foremost in his life was his faith in Christ, family and friends. He possessed a genuine love for others and was not only our dad, but a father figure to many. Joe is survived by his wife Jo Ann, of Dalhart, TX, a son Mike and his wife Cheryl of Frankston, TX, daughters Carman Kates and husband Joe of Lewisville, TX, Steffanie Henderson of Amarillo, TX and Desha Butler and her husband Kyle of Claude, TX. 4 grandchildren: Justin Henderson, Nick Henderson, Addison Butler and Breleigh Butler and 4 great grandchildren: Jacob Henderson, Ava Henderson, Brooklyn Henderson and Riley Henderson.Other survivors include numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of Friends. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jim Henderson.
