Josephine (Jo) Isabelle Guenzel Welch, 86, died Sunday, October 11, 2020 in Lubbock, Texas. A graveside and memorial service will be held at a later date. Jo was born Sunday, January 21, 1934 in Kelton, Texas to Bertha Angelia (Ulbrich) and Reinhold Guenzel. Her family moved to Reydon, Oklahoma sometime in the early 1940s and she began Reydon High School in 1947. She graduated as Valedictorian in 1951. In 1952 she attended Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1954 as an RN. She and her family were most proud of this accomplishment as she was the only member of her family to attend college. Jo then began work as an RN at Northwest Texas Hospital and worked alongside Dr. Early B. Lockey (OBGYN) of Amarillo, Texas for many years. In 1969, she married T.I. Welch in Dalhart, Texas which combined a family of 11 children. She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and worked many years beside her husband at Welch Grain Co. Jo is survived by 11 children: Lee George and wife Genny, Angie Russell, Andie Tate, Suzie Goodwin, Michelle Welch, Patrick Welch and wife Kathy, Eric Welch and wife Bettina, Marc Welch and wife Kathy, Roxanne Hudson, Kenny Welch and wife Jennifer, Cheryl Welch Jones and husband Altus, as well as, 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Jo is preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, T.I. Welch, her parents and 3 brothers: Cate, Walt and RC Guenzel.
