Jimmy Ray York, 86, passed on to his forever home, Friday, May 29, 2020 in Dalhart, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the Denver Ave. Church of Christ.
Jimmy Ray was born in Granite, OK on June 11, 1933 to Richard and Ella York, attended a country school (Eastview), graduated from Reed High School in Reed, OK in 1951, the salutatorian of his class; and attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK. He was baptized into Christ by Eldred Stevens in Bill Hoods muddy bottom lake in 1947. In the spring of 1954, he met his soon-to-be bride, Mary Jo Cooper and married her on May 31, in Mangum, OK, after a whirlwind love affair, lasting nearly 66 years. They would soon choose Stinnett, TX as their home, where Debbie, Becky, Joy and John were raised. In 1964, the family moved to Lubbock with Jim enrolling in the Sunset School of Preaching for 2 years, which could be the beginning of his preaching career.
He leaves behind a very rich legacy:
Mary of the home..after almost 66 years of togetherness,
Three daughters: Debbie Alexander of Amarillo, Texas
Becky Fraze of Dora, New Mexico
Joy and husband Bruce Seeber of Grand Prairie, Texas;
A son: John and wife Lane of Waxahachie, Texas
11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors!
Jim prepared long ago to "live forever", believing "be thou faithful unto death and I
will give thee the crown of life (Rev. 2:10)"
(Someone once wrote)
"Servant of Godwell done!
Thy glorious warfare is past;
The battle is fought, the race is won,
And thou are crownedat last!"
