Jimmie Thomas Smith, 87, of Dalhart, Texas passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018. Services were held Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Lincoln Street Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Jimmie Smith was born December 20, 1930 in Dimmitt, Texas to Harvey David (H.D.) Smith and Allie (Wall) Smith. Jimmie graduated from Springlake-Earth in 1949. He was active in athletics through high school and was on the football and boxing team. In January of 1951 Jimmie joined the United States Air Force. Before leaving the service in 1955 he was stationed in Japan and North Africa. Jimmie was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, pumpkin pie and chocolate cake. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings: Lavita Shrum, Geneva Smith, Harvey David Smith, Jr. and a son Joe Bill Oney. He is survived by four children: Stephen Gayle of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Mark Oney of Lubbock, Texas, Debbie Ellis of Woodstock, Georgia and Todd Smith of Lubbock, Texas. Four sisters: Dorothy Ott of Hereford, Texas, Juanita and husband Ed Badger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Betty and husband Don Mullenix of Fletcher, Oklahoma, Barbara and husband Merle Baughman of Sterling, Oklahoma, two brothers: Jack Smith and wife Connie of Elgin, Oklahoma, Homer Smith of Lawton, Oklahoma and 13 grandchildren.
