Jimmie Lee (Turner) Eden was born to Uel and Lelea Turner in Elkhart, Kansas on January 3, 1934, and entered Heavens Gates on August 28, 2021. Jimmie Lee experienced so many interesting things in her 87 years on earth. For example, as a three-month old baby, Jimmie Lee and her parents lived in a covered wagon until their home was built in the St. Joe, Arkansas area. In 1940 the family traveled to Campo, Colorado to see Jimmie Lees Grandmother Rose and to help with broomcorn harvest. On the journey back to Arkansas, Lelea became ill and they stopped and then remained in Hooker, Oklahoma. During childbirth of her younger brother, David, Jimmie Lees mother had complications and it was then up to her to care for her mother, her younger brothers, and do all the housework when she was eight years old.
During World War II, the family moved to Kingsford Heights, Indiana where Uel and Lelea supported their country by working for the U.S. Government at a plant making munitions for the military. Jimmie Lee, at the age of 11, provided care for her younger siblings overnight while her parents were working at the plant. After the war was over, the family moved to Campo, Colorado where Uel started farming and Lelea taught school. Jimmie Lee spent the rest of her childhood there.
Jimmie Lee met the love of her life through family friends. Jack Eden invited Jimmie Lee to a picnic on the Cimmaron River on March 17 and the rest was history. Jack and Jimmie Lee were married on January 20, 1952, in Lamar, Colorado in the home of Jacks sister, Letha Wilcox. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp shortly after. He was sent to Camp Pendleton, California and Jimmie Lee followed shortly thereafter. Their first child, LuAnn, was born on September 8, 1953 while they were stationed there. When Jacks enlistment ended in March 1954, the young family returned to Campo, Colorado where Jack followed his familys line of work by farming and Jimmie Lee busied herself as a loving mother and housewife. The family grew when Jack Eden, Jr. was born on April 8, 1956. Having the Eden name carried on meant the world to Jack, Sr.
Jimmie Lee accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1957 and dedicated the rest of her life to living for God and sharing the Gospel. She was always an active member of her local Baptist church and she taught Sunday School for many years, in fact she was preparing her Sunday School lesson when she led LuAnn to the Lord. Most recently she was a member of First Baptist Church in Dalhart, TX. Even at the end of her earthly life, in the hospital, she shared her faith with the medical staff. In the hospital, she told them all that she was "going home."
During the late 1950s the entire family helped with broomcorn harvest. Jimmie Lee and Lelea would work around the clocking cooking for over a hundred broomcorn hands. Jimmie Lees children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have heard her share precious memories about that time. The family was completed with the birth of their second son, James Bruce Eden on May 6, 1964. The family enjoyed several activities together such as fishing, hunting, camping and arrowhead hunting. There were several trips to "the canyons" with picnics and "weinie roasts." Jimmie Lee was an expert gardener and her garden fed her family both summer and winter throughout the years.
Jimmie Lee and Lelea would spend hours lovingly making quilts for their family together. She was an early and active member of the Campo Sew and Glow Club. Jimmie Lee loved quilting and crocheting and continued to quilt even though her sight and arthritis caused her to move slower. She passed this love to her granddaughter, Chelsey, who continues to keep the family tradition alive.
Jimmie Lee and Jack moved to Dalhart, TX in March of 2009 when Jack became ill from cancer. Jack left for his eternal home in Glory on February 8, 2010. Jimmie Lee loved to spend time with her family. She would visit her daughter, LuAnn, every day and talked to her son, Jack, Jr. every evening when he called her. She attended as many sporting events of her great grandchildren as she could. She enjoyed several trips to Kansas to see her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Janice, and her son, Bruce, in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She loved all her children and grandchildren fiercely. She always wanted the last word in the conversation by saying "love ya, love ya, love ya, bye-bye."
Jimmie Lee passed into Glory and ran to the arms of her Savior on August 28, 2021, at the age of 87.
Jimmie Lee was proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Eden, Sr.; parents, Uel and Lelea Turner; son, James Bruce Eden, grandson, Jack Daniel (J.D.) Eden, siblings, Jessie Ray Turner and DeLynn Turner. She is survived by her daughter, Paulene LuAnn Schaffner and her husband, Leroy of Dalhart, TX; son, Jack Arnold Eden, Jr. and wife, Janice, of Andover, KS; grandchildren, Landon Schaffner, Bethany Seidler, Kidron Backes, Chelsey McMillan, Logan Schaffner, Leif Schaffner, 1st Lt. Jonathan Eden, Cody Eden; step-grandchildren, Candice Campbell and Brandi Baquera; 24 great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
