Jim Yoder, 80 of Dalhart, passed away on August 30, 2022. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00am on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Kurtis Abla officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
James Albert Yoder, "Jim or Jimmie", graduated to Heaven on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Jim was born in Dalhart, TX, on October 23, 1941, and spent his school years growing up in Dalhart. He met his wife, Alice Griffith, in High School, and he married her while attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. They returned to Dalhart so that he could begin a farming business with his father, Norval Yoder. Jim farmed for many years and after selling the farm, he continued custom cutting crops until his retirement on October 4, 2020.
Jim loved his community and Dalhart. He evidenced his commitments by serving as county commissioner for many terms, assisted with building the community fishing pond, and participated in various other endeavors for the community. He was also very involved with the Dalhart Senior Citizen Center.
Jim was a very social person and loved life. He was heavily involved with leadership of both the Dalhart Elks Lodge and the Ambassador Club, in addition to being a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dalhart.
He had many passions and hobbies; fishing and rebuilding classic cars being two of his favorites. He loved games, cards, and thoroughly enjoyed bragging rights from the daily dominoes games. He also enjoyed coaching and supporting the Little Dribblers girls basketball program.
Jim and Alice were married for 54 years, 11 months before her passing in 2017. He is survived by his two daughters, Kay Yoder from Princeton, TX, and Ann Yoder Hayworth from Dallas, TX. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Carla Stampfli, J. Kuper, Jeanine Hood, David Scott, Eric Fry, Marty Fry, Robert Griffith; and his two sister in-laws, Dee Scott and Jolene Fry; in addition to numerous cousins and many very close friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Yoder; his sister, Norva Kuper and brother-in-law, C.J. Kuper; and his father and mother, Norval and Marjorie Johnson Yoder.
