James (JIM) Meyer, 85, died Friday January 30, 2015 in Amarillo, TexasPrayer Vigil was held at 6:00 pm on Monday, February 2nd, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Dalhart, Texas.Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Dalhart, Texas. Officiant - Monsignor Michael Colwell, Pastor - St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Dalhart, Texas.James Bernard Meyer was born June 14, 1929 in Olathe, Kansas to Vincent J. and Evelyn M. (Schalk) Meyer, he grew up and graduated high school in Olathe. Mr. Meyer farmed in Nevada, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Jim farmed and homesteaded in Nevada, he and his brother Joe leased land in Kansas where they purchased their first combine and equipment and headed south, they custom farmed in Oklahoma before arriving in Texas where they leased a farm in Wildorado. A veteran of the Korean War, Jim was drafted in 1951 into the US Army and was sent to Japan where he spent six weeks training for Ski Patrol. After his honorable discharge in 1953 he returned to the Texas Panhandle to farm. On January 30, 1960 he married Germaine Britten in Groom, TX and they made their home east of Dalhart. Jim was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, and a past member of the Dalhart CO-OP board of directors.Survivors include his wife Germaine of Dalhart, sons Daniel Meyer and his wife Sue, David Meyer and his wife Christine, and Ronald Meyer all from Dalhart, TX a daughter Sharon and her husband Jon Engelbrecht of Stratford, TX. Brothers; Donald Meyer of Amarillo, TX, and Vincent C. and his wife Gladys Meyer of Canyon, TX - Sisters; Rita Burges of Hereford, TX and Mildred and her husband Willie Wieck of Etter, TX, Jo Ann Meyer of Adriane, TX and seven grandchildrenHe is preceded in death by his parents, a son: Darrell, a brother Joe and a brother-in-law- Melvin Burges and a sister-in-law: Ann Meyer.In lieu of flowers - memorials may be made to the Saints Club or St. Anthony of Padua building fund411 Texas Blvd. Dalhart, TX 79022
