Jim Chandler, 62, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in Amarillo, TXServices were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Rita Blanca Coliseum.Jim Chandler, born October 19, 1946, in Dalhart, Texas, died on Tuesday following complications of cardiac bypass surgery. Jimmy, to those who knew him since childhood, was a much loved and devoted grandfather, father, brother and son, and a true friend to so many. A lifelong member of the Dalhart community, he will be remembered for his easy smile, his appreciation of a well told joke and his passion for his home town.From his own days on the football field and basketball court when he himself first wore the Dalhart Golden Wolves jersey until his untimely death, Jim loved to watch his Wolves play sports. Although we may not see him there in future seasons, we know that he will continue to be with us in the stands.Among his many accomplishments, Jim was both current and repeat President of the Dalhart Board of Realtors, member of the Texas and National Associations of Realtors, and he was highly regarded among his fellow realtors from local to state levels. He will be remembered by his realtor peers as a genuine, fair trader. Jim was active in the Dalhart Chamber of Commerce, where he served for several years on the board of directors. He served on Dalharts City Council; he was Dalharts Mayor Pro Tem, and he served on Dalharts Economic Development Board. A long-time Rotarian, Jim was a Past President of the Dalhart Rotary Club and was proud to be a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow. Jim was dedicated to serving the youth of his community, and he greatly enjoyed serving as Chairman of the Rotary Scholarship Committee. His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Dalhart Rotary Scholarship fund. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Raman and Wilma Chandler. He is survived by his children Jackie Chandler and Kate Parker, her husband Mitch and their children William and Charlotte (Jims true pride and joy); long-time dear friend MegAn Perry, her children John Lyon, Johns wife Cassie and their son Cooper, MegAns daughter Liz Baker, her husband Matt and their daughter Aubrey. Jim is also survived by his brother Ray Chandler and his wife Dian, his sister Doris Thompson and her husband Tom and his sister Kay Peck, as well as his nephews and their wives Chris and Juana Chandler, their sons Wilson and Christopher, and Zach and Robbie Chandler and their daughters Rebecca and Danielle. Chris Chandler, Zach Chandler, Luis Corona, Paul Henderson, Ed Hopkins, John Lyon, Jeff Reynolds and Bing Seal will serve as pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Dalhart Rotary Club and Dalhart City Council members.If he were here with us, he would have us end with a good joke.
