Jesse L. Jet Sorrells, 85 Died: Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Abilene, Texas.Services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds Ranch Headquarters south of Dalhart. Burial was at 3:00 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart.Officiating was Dean Whaley, Minister of the Dalhart Church of Christ.Survivors include Daughters: Marilyn Sorrells Schmidt of Dalhart & Judy Lynn Sorrells of Abilene, TX Nieces raised as Daughters: Susan Cessnun Gunnels of Big Lake, TX & Synthia Cessnun Howell of Dalhart, TX Grandson: Douglas Shmidt of Dalhart, TX & Granddaughter: Melanie Schmidt Bohr of Dalhart, TX & 1 Great Granddaughter: Shelley Schmidt Drgac of Caldwell, TX Preceded in death: His parents, His wife of 55 years Myradell Cessnun Sorrells, 2 Brothers, 1 SisterJesse Sorrells was born March 22, 1920 at his familys home in Scurry County and was raised between the 9R and Triangle ranches, which at that time were both owned by the Reynolds family. He grew up working cattle for both ranches. After getting out of WWII , after eliminating Hitler he came back to work as Ranch Manager for Reynolds Cattle Company for almost 40 years. In 1947 he worked as chuck wagon boss for 3 years. After the manager of the Dalhart ranches died, he was then sent to learn the yearling business & manage both ranches. In 1972 he was made General Manager of all their operations. He managed both ranches- Rita Blanca 65,000 acres and the Matlock at 35, 000 acres. He felt the happiest time of his life was the 13 years he managed their ranch known as the Xes or long X outfit, in the Davis Mountains near Kent, TX. It was approx. 400,000 acres & ran a chuck wagon almost year round. Jesse loved all sports, especially golfing. He attended West Texas State University on a Basketball / Football scholarship. His sports career was ended on Pearl Harbor Day when he joined the Army. Jesse was proud to be a rancher and veteran. Jesse worked for Medical Pay, Inc. a family owned company for the last 10 years and was their best ambassador. He loved his friends at Hendrick Medical Center, Diamondback Golf Club, and Graham Regional Hospital. A special heartfelt thanks goes to the incredible staff at Royal Estates Assisted Living Center in Abilene. Jesse was a phenomenal letter writer and would seldom attend funerals but always spent hour upon hour writing memory filled letters to a family that had lost a loved one.The Sorrells Clan requests that friends take a minute to write a letter of inspiration in his honor. Jesse was overwhelmed by the gazebo built in honor of Myradell at the Dalhart Senior Citizens Center.
