Jess Robertson, 80, died on Friday, October 24, 2008 in Dalhart, TexasFuneral Services were held at 10:00AM Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Rita Blanca Coliseum in Dalhart, TX under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas. Officiating was Mr. Robert Rooney, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Dalhart, TXJess Robertson was born on July 20, 1928 in Waurika, OK to Alvis and Julia (Browning) Robertson. His parents passed away when Jess was very young, so in order to assist his brothers and sisters in supporting each other, Jess quit school after completing the sixth grade. He learned the value of hard work at an early age. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 at the age of 22 and served the required two years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. On December 18, 1954, In Clayton, New Mexico he married the love of his life, Ann Williamson. At that time Jess got the opportunity to do what he naturally loved and what he taught himself to do and that was to cowboy on a ranch. He was hired to work on the famous Matador ranch as a cowboy hand. This started a long career of working around horses and cattle that he had to give up only a few years ago due to his poor health. During that time he earned the reputation as one of the best at knowing how to handle horses and looking after registered Appaloosa and Quarter horses that were sold to horse owners around the country. Despite his love for his work, Jess was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Beyond his family he had many friends and those who he met for the first time felt like they had known him for many years.
