Jerry Lee Medford went to be with the Lord at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 in Dalhart, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Newlife Fellowship in Dalhart, Texas. The family requests all to come as you are in casual attire.
Jerry Lee Medford was born on Friday, February 13, 1942 to Cliff and Mamie (Green) Medford in Gladstone, New Mexico. He was born at home on the family farm. His dad went for the midwife, but they didnt make it back in time, so Mamie delivered him all on her own. He had a normal childhood doing everyday chores around the farm. At the age of 13, Jerry came to know the Lord while listening to a radio program.
In 1959 Jerry joined the Army. He was trained as an MP and worked on the Autobaud in Germany. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1962. After the military he moved to Arkansas and went to work driving a chicken truck, he then moved on to Clayton, New Mexico to drive for his brother hauling grain and cattle. January 1, 1964 Jerry was married to Shirley Best and they had two children, Kelly and Lisa. On June 5, 1971 Jerry remarried to Jane Lietzan Boswell in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. They were introduced by his mother. The blended their families to include Kelly, Lisa, Austin and Kristina. They soon added John and BJ to make their family complete.
They lived and worked in Cheyenne Wells and Garden City, Kansas for the next few years. Jerry and his family moved a few (17 times in the first 5 years) to find work. In February of 1974 they relocated to Dalhart. Jerry worked on some local farms and began driving truck for Bradford Trucking, then became a dispatcher for Bradford and Ed Glick. He also drove for Renzenberger before going to work for John Hartwell Farms until his retirement in 2012 at the age of 70.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane, sons; Kelly and wife Jill of Albuquerque, New Mexico, John of Dalhart, Texas and BJ Medford and fianc Tanya Murff of Dalhart, Texas, daughter Kristina Thaxton of Amarillo, Texas, four grandsons; Jordan Medford, Chase Thaxton, Chance Thaxton and Clayton Medford, two granddaughters; Kellby Medford and Kasi Medford, one great granddaughter Yumi Thaxton, two sisters; Jody Smith and Helen Raulston and two grand puppies, Bear Barker and Destiny and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his son Austin, his grandson Spencer, two brothers; Jim Ray and Bud Medford and one sister, Kathy Deckert.
