Jerry J. Lobley passed from this world to go meet his Maker on August 23, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home in Dalhart. His funeral service was held August 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Denver Avenue Church of Christ. Burial followed at the Texline Cemetery, Texline, Texas. Jerry was born Feb. 5, 1934 in a clapboard house south of Fort Sumner, NM. He was the 8th of 9 children born to John Edwin and Eva Lobley. He grew up on a commercial apple orchard and sweet potato farm. Having spent his earliest years in the middle of the Great Depression, he remarked that their fruit and vegetable business was the only thing that stood between having plenty to eat or going hungry. Upon graduating from Fort Sumner High School, he attended Abilene Christian College where he met and eventually married Rowena Ann Sheets from Oklahoma City, OK. Upon his college graduation, he and Rowena moved to Idalou, TX where he farmed for two years. They then moved to Petersburg, TX where he managed the Blue Star Elevator. During these years, Jerry and Rowena had three children. Clay, Brenda and Kyle. Jerry and Rowena moved the family from Petersburg in the spring of 1974 to a small farm south of Texline, TX. Jerry managed the Texline Feed Mill for 5 years, then started a grain/feed merchandizing company called Jerry Lobley Company which he ran for 18 years. He also acquired farm and ranch land in the Texline area and very much loved running cattle and riding good horses. In the early 1980s, Jim (Tackle) Guile moved in with the Lobley family permanently and he came to be fully regarded as their 4th child. His children are fully regarded as Jerry and Rowenas grandchildren as well. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and served as a deacon in Petersburg, TX and as a deacon then elder at the Texline congregation. Jerry loved God, his family, his church family and country and a good history book. He was a true friend and advocate, consistently thankful and believing firmly in Free Enterprise economics. Jerry leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Rowena. His children Clay and wife Jennifer of Perico, Brenda Lobley of Aledo, TX, Kyle and his wife Kathryn of Dalhart and Tackle Guile and wife Pam; 12 grandchildren: Sarah (fiance Matthew), Nolan (wife Marla), Emily (fiance Juancarlos) and Dylan; Natalie (husband Joseph), Sam, Hannah and Kaylen; Emory and Ivy; Riley and Kenneth, one great grandson, two brothers; Stanley Lobley and wife Betty and Larry Lobley and wife Kitty, a much loved sister-in-law, Dale Lobley and many nieces, nephews and friends. His wit, wisdom, and his intent to encourage people will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Jerrys honor be given to New Mexico Christian Childrens Home, Portales, NM or Coon Memorial Hospice. To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Jerry J.
