Jeannette Emma Miersma, 71, of Dalhart, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 7, 2023. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 10 o' clock in the morning on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Dan Martin officiating. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 at First Baptist Church. Honoring the request of Mrs. Miersma, there will be no viewing for her but the family will receive friends from 6-8 o' clock in the evening on Friday at the funeral home. Services are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
Jeannette was born on December 1, 1951 in Groningen, Netherlands to Pete and Emma Hammingh. After her family immigrated to America, they settled in Bellflower, California where she attended Valley Christian Schools. Jeannette met the love of her life, Curt, during high school and married on August 24, 1973. Most of their married life was spent living on a dairy in Corona, California until 2003 when they moved to Dalhart, Texas. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Jeannette was a talented beautician. She had a gift of connecting with her many clients who she often counseled and encouraged.
Jeannette was a member of the Hillside Christian Church in Dalhart, Texas where she helped with children's ministry. Throughout her church life, Jeannette led Bible studies, directed bell choirs, and enjoyed singing in church. She loved to take walks with friends, sit outside to visit with her husband, and gather with family and friends. She will best be known for her strong faith that was shown in the way she selflessly loved and spiritually guided all the people she knew and loved.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Curt Miersma of Dalhart; her four children, Kristy Detwiler of Dalhart, Texas and her children, Cody and Crystal Detwiler and daughter Harper, Jeremiah Detwiler and fiancé Hadleigh O'Brien, Genevieve Hicks, Autumn, Emma, Abby, and Leah Detwiler; Curt and Rachel Miersma of Keene, Kentucky and children, Ryan, Nick, Lucas, and Sadie Miersma; Robert and Valerie Miersma of Canyon, Texas and children Taylor, Trista, Trenton, and Tyce Miersma; Brandon and Sarah Hofland of Sioux Center, Iowa and children Hunter, Olivia, Tineka, and Cooper Hofland; sister Wilma Ramak of Silverton, Oregon; sister and husband, Henry and Emma Dirksen of Dalhart, Texas; brother-in-law Bert Bannink of Buckley, Washington and many other brother and sister in laws, nieces, and nephews that she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Emma Hammingh, in-laws, Harry and Dorothy Miersma, sister Grace Bannink, and granddaughter Jaelyn Miersma.
Memorials may be directed to Twilight Cancer Fund of Dalhart, Providence Christian College, Dordt University, or Northwestern College.
