Earline Jean Hinds, 89, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Lubbock, TexasA memorial Service was held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Texline, Texas. Jean was born in Piggott, Arkansas to Bertha and Edgar Steward on April 27, 1924, the youngest of five. During World War II, she worked at the naval yard in Long Beach, California. She married Floyd Hinds on September 20, 1947 in Clayton. Jean loved Gene Autry so much that one of her brothers-in-law started calling her Jean. When she met Floyd - he had never heard of the name Earline, so he called her Jean which stuck with her the rest of her life. Jean was kind and generous. She was the Dallam county JP in Texline and the PTA president in the 70s. She was a homemaker and worked at several business in town, as well as a CNA in the mid-to-late 70s and worked at the hospital in Dalhart. When Jean and Floyd farmed they worked side by side during harvest. She was also an amazing cook and never met a stranger, in fact most people would almost immediately love her. She is survived by a daughter Barbara Hinds Harris. Two grandchildren, Jason and wife Melissa and Amanda and husband Bryan Mann. Five great-grandchildren which includes the one due in October. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd, and a daughter Beverly Hinds Webb. She moved to Lubbock in July to be closer to family and to be closer to medical care. She passed peacefully on Saturday, September 7.
