Jay Lucero of Dalhart, Texas passed away Sunday, September 13, 2020. Rosary and Mass were held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at St Anthonys of Padua. Followed by burial at the Channing Cemetery.
Jay was born on February 19, 1947 in Dalhart, Texas to Fred and Lilly Lucero. After graduating from Channing High School, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam. After his return from the Army, he joined his father working with the Burlington Northern Railroad where he stayed until retirement.
On August 1, 1970, Jay married Natalie Marruffo and together they raised two boys, Brian and Terry.
Jay enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, coaching Little Dribblers basketball and working on his roadster. His greatest joys were cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with "his girls" Peyton and Charlie.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Mac and Gilbert; and sisters Marie, Gladys and Beatrice.
Jay is survived by his wife of 50 years, Natalie; son Brian Lucero and wife Karen, children Brandi and Kassie, and 5 great grandchildren; son, Terry and wife Tyler, children Peyton and Charlie. He is also survived by his brother Ernie Lucero and wife Maria, sisters in law: Josie Lysford, husband Tim and son Michael; Betsy Aragon and husband Steve, children and grandchildren Sheila, Raven, JC and Apple; brother in law Ben Marruffo and wife Debbie and son Jacob; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
