Jarrelyn (Middlebrooks) Lang was born in Jacksboro, Texas on October 17, 1941 to Atticus Middlebrooks and Maggie Lee (Harper) Middlebrooks. She shuffled off this mortal coil on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Dalhart, Texas. She graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1960 and went on to earn a BA degree in English and Latin from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Jarrelyn married Jack Lang of Dalhart, Texas on July 12, 1964. Her first three years of teaching were in Dalhart. She also taught in Jacksboro and Mineral Wells, Texas, and managed the Buccaneer Stamp Store in Dalhart for about 18 months. She finished her teaching career where she started, back in Dalhart. She taught many subjects in her tenure as a teacher, but nearest and dearest to her heart were English and Latin. After teaching for a total of 37 years, 29 of which were in Dalhart, she retired at the close of the 2003 school year. Jarrelyn was a member of First Christian Church in Dalhart and its Missionary Guild, Dalhart Classroom Teachers Association, Texas Classroom Teachers Association, and the Middlebrooks Family Association. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She also enjoyed researching genealogy, about which she published many articles in various newsletters. Survivors include her sons David of Dallas, Texas and Jarrell of Dalhart, Texas; one sister, Barbara Gaston of Bonham, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; Atticus and Maggie Lee, her husband of 35 years, Jack, and her older sister; Alice Holland. Services were held at First Christian Church in Dalhart, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020, followed by burial beside husband Jack in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Christian Church, the National Breast Cancer Society or the Alzheimers Association.
