Janice Lee (Long) Gottshall, 79 of Dalhart, passed away on January 2, 2023. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00PM, Thursday, January 5, 2023 at United Methodist Church with Pastor Bobby Medford officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Janice Lee (Long) Gottshall was born October 29th, 1943 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Mr. Lee D. Long and Mrs. Helen Lena (Morrow) Long. She attended and graduated from Preston High School in Preston, Oklahoma. During this time, she met and married the love of her life Mr. Earnest Gottshall. They later had their son Kevin Gottshall and their daughter Renee (Gottshall) Finkenbinder and created a beautiful life in Dalhart, Texas. Jan worked at Moomaws/Hannas Furniture for nearly 20 years. She also managed the Dalhart Weather Station as a Weather Observation Technologist.. But her most important job was raising her children, grandchildren and taking care of her family. Jan loved to travel, usually on a cruise ship, with her close friends and family. She loved helping anyone she could, but especially her babies and children. She was incredibly proud of her family and the life she and Earnest created for themselves and their loved ones. She would not rest until everyone was comfortable and laughing. Jan fought many battles with her health throughout her life. From having polio as a child to her final battle with cancer, she never gave up. She always overcame her difficulties to focus on the happiness of others. She was the strongest, most loving woman. Her family is so proud of her. Jan has always been known as one of the kindest souls in our town and will be greatly missed by so many. She is preceded in death by her mother Helen Long, her father, Lee Long, her sister Helen Faye Long, and her grandson Kevin (Lee) Gottshall, II. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Earnest Gottshall, her son Kevin Gottshall and his wife Sheryl Gottshall of The Woodlands, TX, one daughter Renee Finkenbinder and her husband David Finkenbinder of Dalhart, TX. Her five grandchildren Hannah Wetmore and her husband Reed Wetmore of Amarillo, TX, Hayden Finkenbinder and Hadley Finkenbinder of Lubbock, TX. Elizabeth Reina and her husband Chris Reina of Aubrey, TX. Kevin Lee Gottshall, III of The Woodlands, TX. And her one great grandchild Bennett Lee Reina of Aubrey, TX.
