Janice Field was born October 8, 1935 in Hartley, Texas, the daughter of Laforrest and Regina Stovall Whittier. She was married in Dalhart, Texas to Mack Field for 70 years. Janice was the younger sister to one brother, Larry Whittier, and had three stepsiblings: Marvin Whittier, Fern Whittier Field and Terri Whittier Secor. In addition to managing the books for the family farm, she worked for 20 years at the Federal Land Bank. In addition, Janice was a local businesswoman and entrepreneur, owning The Book House in Dalhart for more than a decade. She delighted in running an impeccable kitchen, was an avid reader, a talented seamstress, enjoyed playing bridge with dear friends, and dancing with Mack. Janice loved raising her 2 boys, and later, had a great time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1954. Janice loved her family very much. Her husband, Mack, passed away last year on August 11, 2020. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, David and Carolyn Field of Fredericksburg, Texas and Stephen and Gail Field of Blanco, Texas. Survivors include three grandchildren: Gloria and Karl Yoder, Tonia and Trae Hudson, and Callie Field; and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one stepsister, Terri Whittier Secor, of Mesa, AZ. In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her brother and two step siblings. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas.
