Kathryn Jane Killebrew was born May 31, 1924, in McAlester, OK, to Kay Bell and Thomas Richard Killebrew and moved with her family to Tipton, OK , in 1936, where she graduated from Tipton High in 1942. Thereafter she completed business courses at Southwestern Oklahoma State and moved to Chambers, OK, to teach in the public school. Subsequently, as part of the war effort, Jane worked in the Personnel Department at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. She returned to teaching after the War at her alma mater in Tipton. On March 11, 1946, Jane married Edward C. Jones at her parents home in Tipton and in 1948, their first daughter, Laura, was born. The family moved to Earth, Texas, in 1948, where the family grew with the arrival of two more daughters, Nancy Kay in 1950 and Ellen Beth in 1954. Edward and Jane moved to their farm near Earth in the Big Flag Community outside Dimmitt, TX. In 1961 the family made their last move together to Dalhart. It was there in 1978 Edward passed away as the result of a farm accident. Jane remained in Dalhart and contributed greatly to the communitys political, charitable and cultural life. Always concerned about the neediest among us, she personally delivered food to families in need during her years as a very busy homemaker and was a lifetime supporter of city food banks. Jane was also an active member of the Church of Christ. Possessing a beautiful voice, she sang at numerous weddings and funerals and civic functions and acted in plays produced at the LaRita Performing Arts Theater where she was a founding member. In March, 1995, Jane married Lloyd Vaughan of Dimmitt, TX. The couple lived in Dimmitt until 2006 when they moved to the Carillon Lifecare Community, Lubbock. Jane is survived by her husband, Lloyd, and three daughters, Laura Peterson, Dallas, TX; Nancy Jones, New York, NY; Ellen Jones and her husband, Jim McCarthy, Washington, D.C.; her grandchildren Todd Hyso and wife, Jeri Ann, of Dallas, TX; Paul Hyso and wife, Meri Dawn, Dallas, TX; Margaret Jane McCarthy, Washington, D.C. and Tommy McCarthy, New York, NY; her great grandchildren, Carlie May and Cadie Ann Hyso, Dallas, TX and her brothers Jack Killebrew, Tipton, OK; Sam Killebrew and his wife, Lois Killebrew, Tipton, OK; Robert Killebrew and his wife, Linda, Altus, OK; Tom Killebrew and his wife, Sandra, Lubbock, TX and numerous much-beloved nieces and nephews.
