Jamie Lynn Carter, 62, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022 in Dalhart, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Stegall of Newlife officiating. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Jamie Field was born to James Murray and Fern (Hamilton) Field on May 13, 1960 in Dalhart, Texas. Jamie grew up just outside Dalhart on the family farm. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1978. Jamie played basketball and marched in the Golden Wolf Band. After high school, she spent a short time taking courses at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. She returned to Dalhart to marry David Carter on February 14, 1981. Jamie and David created a wonderful life together with their three children, Billy, Katy and Thomas surrounded by close friends and family in their hometown. Jamie was a homemaker; devoted to caring for her kids and always welcomed everyone into her home. You could usually find her supporting her children whether it be at a ballgame, band concert or the motorcycle track. Jamie had a heart to help and be of service to others. Throughout the years she volunteered for several local organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, HOSTS, local elections and Little Dribbler coach. In recent years, she became a member of Newlife church where she found a new fellowship and place to volunteer. Before Newlife, she was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. Jamie loved spending time with her friends whether it be out at the golf course or her weekly bowling league. She was an avid sports fan and loved her Texas Tech Red Raiders. Many adventures over the years to Lubbock, Big 12 tournaments and the Final Four. She made sure that her granddaughters learned how to be fans of the game. She taught us all that time is better spent with a visit on the patio with a friend and the stuff on the to do list can wait. Jamie never met a stranger. She always said that people came from all over the Panhandle to have her bloody marys at the XIT parade. She was the life of the party and brought a smile, laughter and a good time everywhere she went. Many knew her as Aunt Jamie, other mother, but above all friend. Jamie is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Carter, her children Billy Carter (Courtney) of Dalhart, Thomas Carter of Dalhart and Katy (Michael) Simerly of Amarillo. Her granddaughters: Zoe Carter, Hadley and Henley Simerly, her mother, Fern Hamilton of Amarillo, her sisters: Leslie (Bobby) Reeves of Deer Park, Texas, Laurie (Ronnie) Forks of Montgomery, Alabama, many nieces, nephews and countless beloved friends. Jamie is preceded in death by her dad, James Murray Field and stepdad George Hamilton. Until we can see her again, remember to get your Guns up, fill out your bracket in March and mix the bloody marys in August.
