James Edward Rinestine, 81, passed away on December 31, 2019 in the Coon Memorial Nursing Home in Dalhart, Texas. A memorial service will be held January 11, 2020 at 11:00 CST (10:00 MST) in the Nara Visa Community Center, Nara Visa, NM.
James was born December 13, 1938, to Lela Elizabeth (Wilson) and William Henry (Bill) Rinestine at the family home west of Nara Visa, N.M. He attended school at Nara Visa through the 11th grade, then graduated from Amistad High School in 1958.
He married Renee Rock on June 24, 1960 and God blessed them with two children, Bryan and Robin. They lived west of Nara Visa and he worked for the McCarty ranch for a time, and on the family ranch until his death. His favorite thing throughout his life was helping neighbors with their cattle work and they helping him.
He was very active in sports, especially basketball and bareback riding, winning the New Mexico High School Rodeo bareback riding his senior year, breaking horses which led to a lifelong love of horses. He loved to team rope. In the mid 1970s he began training and showing cutting horses, winning the American Paint Horse Association National Champion Jr. Cutting on the first horse he trained and went on to win many awards in both the APHA and National Cutting Horse Association as well as year-end awards in several clubs in New Mexico and Texas. This led to him becoming an AAA judge for the NCHA for 15 years, and judging the Working Ranch Cowboy Associations Top Horse and Top Hand for four years.
He had served in the National Guard, was a member of the American Legion, American Paint Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and National Cutting Horse Association. He attended the First Baptist Church in Logan, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H.(Bill) Rinestine and Lela Rinestine, one sister, Ruby Sandlin, two brothers, Bill Rinestine and John Rinestine.
Surviving James are his wife Renee Rinestine of Nara Visa, NM, his son Bryan Rinestine and wife Andrea of Logan, NM, his daughter Robin Warnberg and husband David of Beverly Hills, FL, five grandchildren: Andrew Rinestine and Trevellion Rinestine of Grand Junction, CO, Tyra Davis-Rojas, Trace Davis and Gage Rinestine, and one great-grandson, Haeden Davis of Florida, one sister Alice Garner of Dalhart, Texas and many other relatives and friends.
