James Leon McClellan, 77, of Dalhart succumbed to cancer on February 6, 2017. Mr. McClellan unselfishly donated his body to the Willed Body Program at Texas Tech University.There was a celebration of life for Mr. McClellan at St. James Episcopal Church at 801 Denver Avenue, Dalhart TX on Thursday, February 9, 2017; 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family encourages memorials be made to the charity or organization of your choice.Mr. McClellan was born on the Coon Ranch in Moore County, Texas on January 11, 1940 to James Clarence McClellan and Rosie Leona (Mitchell) McClellan. Mr. McClellan was a graduate of Dalhart High School and married his high school sweetheart Edwina Ruth (Winnie) Zimlich. After a brief stint in Somerset, PA where he worked for the Shell Oil Company, the McClellans returned to Dalhart where Mr. McClellan began working for his father-in-law Ed Zimlich. James served in the Army National Guard and after a short career as a police officer in Dumas, TX, he moved back to Dalhart and became a well-known and respected paint contractor. He was easy to spot in his traditional white painter overalls. He married his current wife Neila in Las Vegas on August 4, 2000. Mr. McClellan enjoyed outdoor activities especially hunting pheasants and riding his BMW motorcycle with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Neila Williams of the home; his son Jim McClellan of Fritch; his four sisters; Joyce Wiseman of Dumas, TX, Alice Stegman, Barbara Queen and Brenda Kadish of Henderson, NV along with his brother Lewis McClellan of Dalhart, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and first wife Winnie. His presence and guidance to the family will be dearly missed.
