Irma Joe Mitchell died on Thursday June 6, 2019 in Dalhart, Texas. Prayer Vigil was held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua, Dalhart, Texas. Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua, Dalhart, Texas. ~ arrangements ~ Horizon Funeral Home. Irma Joe Hesse was born May 23, 1929 in Dalhart, Texas to Violette Hennard Hesse and August H. Hesse, Sr. She was a lifetime member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Irma Joe married George L. Mitchell on October 11, 1947 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They made their home in Dalhart where they had a water well service until his death in 1982. When she was asked how many children she had: she would always reply two and Half Dozen, 2 girls and 6 boys. They are Grant, Rex, Clay, Cari, Eden, Ward, Wade and Dennis. She is preceded in death by her husband George L. Mitchell in 1982, her parents and two brothers August H. Hesse Jr., and Jack, one sister Mary Render and two sons Dennis and Grant. She enjoyed playing card games with her friends for many, many years. She was a member of St. Anthonys Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. She also joined a mothers club as well as a bridge club. Irma Joe did not like to be called Irma, always said that was her other sisters name, Erma Skalsky. While raising children she also raised animals too. Loved them all! She usually knew what children and animals wanted before they did. Seemed like only Irma Joe knew how to deal with 13 years olds. Most moms couldnt stand their children at that age, but she knew exactly what to do. She was a very loving mother and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Irma Joe is survived by six children: Rex and wife Rosa Mitchell, Clay Mitchell, Cari and husband Everett Stanley, Eden and husband Bill Green, Ward Mitchell and Wade Mitchell and 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Thanks to all the Nurses, CNAs and Hospice at Coon Memorial Home and at the Legacy who loved our mother and gave her the best care.
