Cecil Irene Merwin, 89, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Amarillo, Texas Funeral Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Spiritual Life Center of Dalhart with her son-in-law, Pastor Leon Laney officiating. Graveside services followed in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home. Cecil Irene Lacey was born on September 24, 1923, to Orville and Ruby (Leadford) Lacey.Irene, affectionately known by her grandchildren as G-G, grew up in Norwood, Missouri. She married Billie Douglas Merwin in El Reno, Oklahoma in 1943 and they lived in Boise City, Oklahoma before moving to Dalhart in 1953.She was involved in many facets of nursing, including home health care, the nursing home, and hospital care for over 50 years and she enjoyed giving of herself to help others. Irene adored her family and her grandbabies were her joy. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.Survivors include daughters: Judy Laney and her husband, Leon , of Stratford, Bim Frazier and her husband, Tommy, of Dalhart, Jackie Moody and her husband, Craig, of Dalhart; son Cecil Merwin, of Dalhart; sister Muriel Kelley of Modesto, California; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, one brother, and one son.
