Howard B. Higgins, 92, died Friday, September 2, 2011 in Hereford, TXGraveside Services were held at 10:00 AM (CDT) Monday, September 5, 2011 in the Texline Cemetery, Texline, TX after the graveside service the family invited everyone to a Memorial at the Texline Church of Christ fellowship hall.Howard Blaine Higgins was born May 15, 1919 in Hereford, TX to Albert and Salla (Jackson) Higgins. He was raised in the Progressive Community and attended schools in Hereford. Mr. Higgins graduated from Hereford High school in 1937 and on October 20, 1940 he married Ira Jeanne Ricketts in Hereford. They farmed and ranched in Hereford for 7 years before moving to Texline where he, his parents, brothers and sister owned and operated the Higgins Brothers Ranch (part of the original XIT Ranch). They raised Registered Angus Cattle before the family sold the ranch in 1967. Howard and Ira Jeanne farmed outside of Texline before moving to Logan in 1975 when they purchased the Shoenail Ranch. In 1980 they retired and moved to Kingsland, TX and in 2001 they moved back to Hereford. Ira Jeanne Higgins died in 2002. Howard was an avid student of the Bible and a member of the Central Church of Christ in Hereford. As a long time member of the Church of Christ he had served as an elder in Texline, Logan and Kingsland as well as teaching Adult Sunday School classes. He was a past member of the Texas Cattle-Feeders Association.Survivors include his daughters Donna Milam and her husband Loyd of Kingsland, TX, Sandra Dixon and her husband Eldredge of Texline, TX, Carolyn Fry and her husband Dywane of Hereford, TX and Jonnie Sue McDonald and her husband Jim of Clayton, NM. A brother John Higgins and his wife Bernice of Limon, CO and a sister Wilma Sheets and her husband Ernest of Altus, OK. 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Adela Hernandez of Hereford, TX, Honorary Family member. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 1 great-grandchild.
