Howard Degenhart, 76, died Friday, February 2, 2018 in Dalhart, TX. Graveside Services were held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX. ~ Arrangements provided by Horizon Funeral Home. Howard Fay Degenhart was born April 23, 1941 in Garden City, KS to Hugo and Sylvia (Dudrey) Degenhart. A US Navy Veteran, Howard grew up in Kansas and attended Ft. Hays State University for Industrial Arts before buying his family farm. Mr. Degenhart was a farmer and rancher in Kansas and Texas. Howard married Sondra Bedwell on July 4, 1964 in Albuquerque, NM and they moved to Dalhart in 1983 where they would spend the rest of their lives together, Sondra died in August of 2015. Howard retired from TDCJ Dalhart Unit in 2014 after 13 years of service. Howard is survived by his son Jeff Degenhart of Dalhart, TX; daughter, Shannon Degenhart of College Station, TX; sister, Alice Stamps of Panhandle, TX. Howard is preceded in death by his wife Sondra, his parents and a sister Betty Jane.
