Horace P. HOSS Carter, 78 died Saturday, November 10, 2007 in Amarillo, Texas Services were held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church. Burial was held on the Ranch at the HC Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Mary of Dalhart, TX Sons: Ike and his wife Beth Carter of Ft. Worth, TX Ross and his wife Shelley Carter of Clayton, NM Daughter: Kay and her husband Curt White of Dalhart, TX grandchildren- Cy and Genevieve Carter- Matt and Kathryn Carter, Ben and Liz Carter, Chase, Britt and Rozann Carter, Lance and Rebecca Wann, Whitney and Allison White - Great-grandchild Horace Chappell Carter brothers: Ellison and James Carter of Santo, TX Step-Mother: Helen Carter of Santo, TX and their families as well as numerous great Nephews and Nieces Horace Preston "Hoss" Carter was born August 14, 1929 in Paducah, Texas to Henry Theodore Carter and Ruby Bradford Carter. Raised in Thurber, Texas he married Mary Ann Landers of Strawn, TX on November 19, 1950. Mr. Carter served in the US Army and in February of 1953 they moved to Dalhart where he was foreman of the HC Cattle Company and later he became owner. Hoss was a past XIT Director and a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart. He was a rancher who loved the land, his way of life and always felt his greatest legacy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
