Herman Gaines, Jr., 80 of Dalhart, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 3:00PM, Friday,, February 4, 2022 at NewLife Fellowship with Pastor Joe Tindall, The Loft Church, and by Gregory Tiggs officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Gaines will lay in state from 11-7:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. Herman Gaines Jr. was born April 15,1941 in Parkin Arkansas to his Parents: Vanilla Nettles and Herman Gaines Sr. He moved to Dalhart in 1972 in support of his mother. Herman was a very hard worker throughout his life. He was a pillar of the community for 49 years. In the early 1990 he began his career in the potato industry, starting with R.D. Offutt Co for about 4 years, High Plains for about 2 years then CSS Farms for 25 years until he retired last year. In his spare time he enjoyed working in the yard on his many projects and spending time with his Family & Friends. He is truly going to be missed by so many. Herman is survived by: his Loving Wife Rosa Gaines of Dalhart, TX, his fathers; Herman Gaines Sr of Adrian, MI, Jimmy Graham of Dalhart TX; his Sister: Addie Gaines of Adrian, MI; his children: Marilyn Pitts of Altus, OK, Cassandra Coleman of Dalhart, TX, Lafayette and wife Tavonne Witherspoon of Hobbs, NM, Greg and wife Felicia Tiggs of Dalhart, TX; step-daughter: Christina Douglas and husband Warren of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws and dear friends.
