Helen Charlene Harrison, 82, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2026.
Charlene was born in La Union, New Mexico, on December 12, 1943. After graduating high school, she moved to Dalhart, Texas, in 1964 to live with family. It was there that she met Don Harrison, and the two were married in July of 1965. They made their home in Dalhart, where they built a life together and raised their family.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Don; her son, Mike Harrison of Amarillo, and his wife Shelly; her daughter, Stacie Wimberly of Fort Worth; her grandson, Sheldon Wilson of Amarillo, and his wife Madison; and her granddaughter, Micalynn Harrison, also of Amarillo.
In her earlier years, Charlene worked as an administrative assistant, including a position with Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan, before choosing to stay home to raise her children: providing them with the care, attention, and encouragement that shaped their lives. After her children were raised, she returned to work, joining the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 1995, where she served as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 2010. In August of 2015, Charlene and Don moved to Amarillo to be closer to family.
Charlene enjoyed many simple, joyful pastimes: reading, working puzzles, and playing games. She was also an avid sports fan and loved auto racing. Her favorite teams were any teams from the University of Texas, a loyalty she held with pride.
She was known for her kindness, gentle spirit, and she loved her family wholeheartedly. She shared a special bond with her daughter and granddaughter, whom she cherished dearly. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, patience, and the quiet strength that defined her life.
A funeral service will be held on March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Christian Church, 409 Denrock Ave., in Dalhart. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery on Cherry Street in Dalhart.
Charlene will be deeply missed by her family and all who were blessed to know her.
Services for Helen have been entrusted Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
