Gwen Skelton Lockhart, 96, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in Dalhart, Texas. Family received friends on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Horizon Funeral Home. Graveside Services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in Channing Cemetery - A memorial service was held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Lakeview United Methodist. Officiating was Rev. Dottie Smith, Pastor of Lakeview United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TX. Arrangements under the care of Horizon Funeral Home in Dalhart, Texas. Annie Gwendolyn Sims was born March 4, 1922 in Gadson, AL to Miles and Edith (Kirkland) Sims. They moved to Hartley, TX and Gwen attended schools in Hartley before going to Amarillo College. She married Orin Del Skelton in 1940. Gwen Skelton worked for the Hartley County Sherriff office until after her husband died in 1974. She moved to Dalhart in the mid-seventies. Gwen enjoyed her pets, crocheting and needlepoint. She was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church. Gwen is survived by her daughters: Laura Turner of Dalhart, TX, Cary Skelton Roach of Hansford, CA, Ramona Skelton Berry of Canton, OK, and sons Miles P. Skelton of Clarendon, TX and Merle (Bunk) Skelton of Claude, TX and a sister Judy Kirk of Odessa, TX and 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orin Del Skelton, a granddaughter Johanna Del Roach and a Great Grand Son- Billy Cauble as well as 7 siblings.Memorials may be made to Coon Memorial Nursing Home.
