Gwen Bowers, 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in Dalhart, Texas. Rosary was held at 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Anthonys of Padua Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was at 10:00 am on Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Anthonys of Padua Catholic Church. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX ~ Arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home. Gwendolyn Sue (Heiskell) Bowers was born Tuesday, May 24, 1949 in Monahans, TX to Chester & Edna Stowe (Gilliland) Heiskell. Gwen was valedictorian of Dalhart High School and attended Texas Christian University. She married Don Bowers on December 20, 1969 and they were blessed with three children. Gwen was an avid volunteer and spent many years as a 4-H Leader, she was on the CASA Board of Directors and a founding contributor of Dalhart Meals on Wheels. She was the recipient of the 4-H Silver Spur Award, Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Volunteer Leaders of Texas. Gwen is survived by her husband, Don Bowers of Dalhart, her children- Chip and his wife, Audri Bowers of Fredericksburg, TX, Jarret & his wife, Jennifer Bowers of Dalhart, Nicole Bowers of Dalhart. Grandchildren- Braden, Bryce, Brant, Brittley, Brett, Briggs, Jolie & Dylan Bowers. Her brother Alan & his wife, April Heiskell of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, also her nephews Ben, Jeff & Clay Heiskell and one niece Melody Unikel, as well as many dear in-laws and dear friends. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents and brother- Robert Heiskell.
