Grace Wharton, 97 , died Monday Morning, November 19, 2007 in Dalhart, TexasServices were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, Seventh Day Adventist Church with Max A. Trevino, President of the Southwestern Union Conference of The Adventist Church and James H. Wart , Pastor Seventh Day Adventist Church Dalhart, Texas - Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Texas. Services are under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart, Texas.Grace Collins Wharton was the youngest of eleven children born to Mr. & Mrs. J. D. Collins at Glencoe, Ok on July 5, 1910. Their home during her younger years, was at Wynona, OK In Osage County. Her father was employed in oil field work. Graces father passed away in 1923. Since Grace and her Mother were then alone and Grace finished her education, they moved to Texas to be near her brother Art Collins near Dalhart. While living here she met, & married, a rancher, Roy Wharton. They were married in January 1932 they made their home in the Bunkerhill Community where they lived for 58 years. During that time, Grace taught at the Bunkerhill school for two years. Grace was always interested in health and education. She owned and operated the Staff O Life Health Food Store here in Dalhart for 15 years. During this time of her life she spent 36 years as a Pink Lady in Coon Memorial Home. She also initiated the weekly sing along at the Home. Her other achievements were volunteer Red Cross Instructor of Care of the sick and injured, Lady Pioneer of the year 1993, Woman History of the Month Award 1997. She served for six years on the Board of Directors for Senior Citizens Center. She did a lot of quilting for the center. Grace and Roy were active members of the Local Seventh Day Adventist Church. She served in the past as Church treasurer, organist and teacher in childrens department. There are no survivors in the original Collins family. Survivors include her Daughter: Aline Nolan, 1 Son: Troy and his wife Betty Wharton, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, Two step-grandchildren - several nieces and nephews with one nephew Gene and Shirley Ogle who live locallyMemorials May be made to: Dalhart Senior citizens Center 610 Denrock Dalhart, Texas or a favorite Charity
