Gordon James Culwell, 78, died Friday, November 17, 2006 Services were held Monday, November 20, 2006 at Cal Farleys Boys Ranch Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Burial followed in the Channing Cemetery. Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart, TexasGordon James Culwell was born October 26, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas to Jimmie and Marjorie (Gordon-Cumming) Culwell. Gordon was a rancher, horseman, business man, real-estate broker, shooter, gun enthusiast, gunsmith, boat racer, pilot, metal worker, carpenter, historian and avid reader. A member of the westerner historical society, Mr. Culwell was an instrument rated pilot and had owned Panhandle outdoor sign company and a sports equipment store. A native of the Texas Panhandle he grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High in 1946, he then attended Amarillo College and University of Colorado at Boulder where he received his Engineering degree. In the early 70s he purchased a ranch west of Channing, TX. He married Margaret Sams on August 17, 1974 in Dalhart, Texas.Gordon is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marge. Sons Michael Culwell of Puckett Ranch , Amarillo, TX and J. Paul Womack of Florida and a grandson: Chris Culwell of Oklahoma.
