Glenda Jean Smith passed away SUDDENLY, yet peacefully due to an undiscovered & unknown cancer diagnosis at her home on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Dalhart, Texas. She always said that when it was her time to be called to Eternal life may it be quick, suffer less and peaceful. God granted her request. Dalhart viewing will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Horizon Funeral Home, 701 Elm Ave, Dalhart, TX, beginning at 9 am until 9:00 pm, guest book will be provided. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Anthony Funeral Home (South) Chapel, 135 S. 16th Street, West Memphis, AR 72301; with cremation PER HER REQUEST. Officiated by Rev. LeRoy Turner, Jr. Glenda Jean Smith was born December 23, 1952, in Sunset/Marion, Arkansas to Tommie Smith and Searcy Lee Thomas, raised from an early age to adulthood by paternal grandparents Dan & Lucille Smith. Glenda was the eldest of both parents' children and grew up with many close-knitted cousins who were like brothers & sisters in Sunset. Glenda attended grammar and high school in Marion, AR. Glenda birthed her one & only child LaKeysha Jordan by then husband Robert L. Jordan; she continued to live in Sunset and worked at Avery's 7/11. Glenda later married Norwood "Rock" Smith, Jr, they relocated to Dalhart, TX in the mid-80s and made this their home. Glenda became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked many years at Coon Memorial Nursing Home until retirement in 2006 to fulfill her passion to work in her flower/plan: gardens in both front & back yards with an abundance of plants overflowing inside the home. To say she had a "green thumb" would be an understatement. Glenda's greatest joys were her daughter and grandchildren, they were her pride & joy- bestowing upon her the name "JayJay". Glenda is survived by her daughter, LaKeysha Jordan Turner (LeRoy, Jr.,) grandchildren, Randon Jordan & Keira Jean's Turner all of Dalhart, TX. Siblings Jean Smith, Tommie Smith. Joyce Smith Gordon, Dennis "Bodi" Smith, all (St. Louis, MO), Tommie Jr, (Memphis, TN), Michael (Dasie) Smith, (Horn Lake, MS), Dorothy Rogers, Johnny Lewis (Jacksonville, NC), Rosemary & Charles Lewis, (Memphis, TN), Benjamin Lewis, (St. Louis, MO). Aunts L.C. Robinson, (Chicago, IL), Josephine Rhodes, (Memphis, TN), Ruthie ''Honey" Scott, (Memphis, TN), Ora Slack, (St. Louis, MO). Brothers in-laws: Arthur "Pie" Smith, Franklin Smith (Sunset, AR), Sammy (Alitisha) Smith (Columbus, MS), Sisters in-laws Helen Burns (Pine Bluff, AR), Edna (Neely) Clemons (Chicago, IL) and Evelyn (Ken) Perkins (Memphis, TN). Divorce did not separate brother-in-law John Jordan (Marion, AR) and sister-in-law Effie (Jordan) Spight (West Memphis, AR). Glenda also leaves behind numerous cousins (with the bond of brothers & sisters), nephews, nieces, and friends. Preceded in death by parents Dan & Lucille Smith, her biological father Tommie (Jesse) Smith, biological mother Searcy Lee Thomas, brothers Roosevelt Lewis, Joe Smith, husbands Robert L. Jordan, Norwood "Rock" Smith, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews & nieces who were all a part in loving and nurturing her throughout their lives. Glenda will forever be remembered by those she loved and those who loved her. She will continue to be cherished by family and friends, and friends who became her extended family Midge Vincent, Cassandra Coleman, Willie & Deloris Brooks, Jimmie Graham, neighbors Kendrick & Jori Guel and best friend Judy Sims & family.
